Vienna
Home of the eponymous musical classicism, Austria's capital has a World Heritage-listed historic centre. Running around Vienna evokes memories of the Habsburg era, in a renovated city with a high quality of life.
Vienna is located in the east of Austria, on the banks of the Danube, close to the borders with Slovakia and Hungary. Nicknamed the "City of Dreams" because Sigmund Freud lived there, it is also called the "City of Music". Viennese classicism has had a considerable influence on European music. Famous names such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms, to name but a few, have lived here. During a walk or run through Vienna, you will discover the sublime State Opera House, built in the 19th century. In the heart of the city, in the Innere Stadt, you will be surprised by the gigantic imperial palace Hofburg which, with its outbuildings, occupies a large part of the first district. Within the Hofburg are the Sissi Museum, the Emperor's flats, and the Court Silver Treasure Room, where the Holy Roman Crown is displayed along with other regalia. Nearby, easily accessible during your run, is the Museum Quarter, a complex built in the former imperial stables. The Town Hall or the Austrian Parliament, as well as St. Stephen's Cathedral, are other places worth visiting, that you will glimpse on your Vienna trip.
