Lyon
The thriving city of Lyon, known for its winding streets and three hills, offers a variety of runs. From the heights of the Croix-Rousse to the banks of the Rhône, there are plenty of ways to run in Lyon!
The former capital of the Gauls during the Roman Empire, Lyon became a very commercial city and a leading financial centre during the Renaissance. Its economic prosperity has been confirmed since then, successively by the silk industry, then by the appearance of industries such as textiles, chemicals and, more recently, by the image industry. Despite the numerous petrochemical activities that flourish along the Rhône, in what is known as the chemical corridor, the town has preserved an important architectural heritage dating from the Roman era to the 20th century via the Renaissance. Running or walking, you can discover on foot the districts of Vieux Lyon, the Fourvière hill, the Presqu'île and the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, all of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
